Though Geralt of The Witcher books doesn’t believe in the Law of Surprise and its connection to destiny, both concepts are very much intertwined in the world of The Witcher. With some coaxing, Geralt invokes the Law of Surprise, revealing that Pavetta was pregnant with a daughter - Ciri of The Witcher books. Urcheon then turns to Geralt, saying that he was in the Witcher’s debt. Only then does Queen Calanthe agree to let them stay together. Once everything had calmed down, Pavetta confesses that she and Urcheon had been meeting in secret, and that the two were in love. When Urcheon was close to defeat, Pavetta unleashed a strong magical blast in The Witcher that disrupted the entire banquet. As a result, the princess’ other suitors begin to fight Urcheon, with Geralt coming to his aid. Having uncovered this, Calanthe was confident that her daughter would never willingly give herself to Urcheon. Later, it is revealed that Urcheon is a hedgehog-like creature with spines and fangs. Thus, Pavetta was his long before she was born. Because the late king had nothing to give Urcheon in return, he invoked the Law of Surprise. Urcheon then explains that Pavetta belonged to him as he had saved the life of Queen Calanthe’s husband, King Roegner of Ebbing. He is wearing a full suit of Witcher armor that obscured his face and refuses to take it off until midnight. They took Triss's advice, continuing her physical training, but it soon became evident there was something strange going on within Ciri that not even Triss could help control. After some time, an uninvited guest barges into the banquet hall and introduces himself as Urcheon of Erlenwal. It was Triss who stopped the witchers from administering the harsh potions they used to enhance witcher abilities, as she knew the process would make Ciri barren, a fate she should have a choice in. Ciri finally began her witcher training in earnest. Triss helped Ciri become more comfortable at Kaer Morhen, and the two developed a sisterly bond. Knowing they needed help understanding her bizarre abilities, they sent for the sorceress Triss Merigold. She began spouting strange prophecies that alarmed the witchers, but when it came time to begin her magical training they discovered she could barely even cast the most basic witcher signs. The day she arrived at Kaer Morhen, she accidentally drank a potion called White Seagull that sent her into a trance state. Geralt took Ciri with him to Kaer Morhen to begin her witcher training, but on their travels, he realized she suffered from horrible nightmares that often woke her up screaming. Geralt left their encampment in the night without Ciri, who woke and cried after him not to leave her. But as they were traveling through the forest, they encountered Calanthe's advisor, the druid Mousesack. Ciri knew at that moment who he was and wished to be taken away to fulfill her destiny. Alone and terrified, she was nearly killed by a giant centipede, but Geralt (who also happened to be in Brokilon) heard her screams and went to her aid.Ĭiri did not know who he was until they arrived in Duen Canell and Vergen's governor, Freixnet, revealed Geralt to be a witcher. Ciri traveled to Verden to meet him, but she escaped with a group of soldiers and got lost in Brokilon forest. When Ciri was 10, her grandmother arranged her to to marry the prince of Verden. Calanthe did nothing to dissuade him of this notion, but it seemed destiny would not be deterred. Geralt did not come for her, though he did visit Cintra to get a glimpse at the child, whom he mistakenly believed to be a boy at the time.
